Boils Causes
The skin of a human being is made up of many layers that are designed to give the skin flexibility and allow the skin to fight off infections by providing an effective cover to the cells of the skin and the tissues beneath the skin. The skin is also useful for temperature regulation. It helps to retain some of the body heat and is also effective for cooling. Cooling occurs through sweating which is a process where evaporation of sweat causes the body to cool down. The skin is also the base on which hair grows across the body.
A boil is a condition where a part of the skin becomes infected. This infection, usually bacterial, causes the skin to develop a soft bubble shaped protrusion which is filled with pus. The size of the boil depends on the severity of the infection. There are several different skin boils causes. Each of these causes of boils is responsible in a different way for allowing an infection to penetrate the skin surface. The resultant boil and inflammation is the immune system’s response to such a condition. Boils often form around a hair follicle. This happens when there is an obstruction to the growth of the follicle. The obstruction may be due to an injury or because the hair has begun to grow inwards instead of outward. Another reason for boils is that of a laceration or surface injury. There are many cases when a small item gets imbedded in the skin. This item could be a splinter of wood or some other sharp foreign object. When such an object is present in the skin, it may not be possible for the skin to grow around it. This leaves an open gap in the surface of the skin which could be attacked by bacteria. When the bacteria embed themselves in the wound, the infection begins to develop. Boils can also be caused by the condition of the skin itself. Many youngsters tend to have oily skin, particularly around their faces. This oily nature of the skin is known to foster the formation of boils. A hair follicle or sweat pore on the skin my get clogged with this oily material. When this clogging happens, it either forms a blackhead or a pimple which is a type of boil.
Boils can be treated with a hot compress that helps to improve blood circulation and allow the area to heal quickly.
