Lip Care
The skin of the lip has almost five cellular layers which make it very delicate and moreover this skin does not have any sebaceous glands which cause the lips to get chapped and dry out easily. On the other hand, there a lot of nerve ending in the lips which make it very sensitive thereby causing the lips to thin and shrink with age. Besides this, personal habits like smoking also tend to damage the lips. Lip care tips include modifying one’s diet to include plenty of fruits and vegetables and other foods that are rich in vitamins. One should also drink plenty of water so that the body is hydrated and the skin is supple. This is because skin that is dry tends to wrinkle easily. In order to give proper care for lips one should also reduce the intake of coffee and tea as they tend to have a dehydrating effect. Instead vitamin E supplements may be incorporated into one’s daily diet as they help in keeping the skin supple and soft.
One should also exfoliate the lips regularly as its helps in removing dead skin and allowing new soft skin to grow. There are many commercially available exfoliating products such as lip scrubs. One of the simple methods to exfoliate the lips at home is to apply a generous amount of a lip balm and then wet an old toothbrush and dip it in some sugar and scrub the lips lightly with this toothbrush. Once done wash the excess off and apply some more lip balm. Smoking is also harmful to the health of one’s lips as it not only dries up the skin of the lips but also tends to reduce the supply of oxygen to the lip skin which is required to provide essential nutrient to the blood cells. An ample and healthy flow of blood to the lip tissue is required to have healthy pink lips. For those who spend a lot of time exposed to the UV rays of the sun, it is essential to use a lip balm with SPF. Lip care home remedies include using lemon ridges to scrub the lips and to lighten the skin of the lips as lemon acts as a natural skin lightener. Additionally, another home remedy for lip care would be to use honey which is a natural moisturizer on one’s lips and allowing it to remain for a few minutes before washing it off.
