Nails form a very important part of one’s hands and hence proper and regular nail care is essential to have clean, neat and healthy nails. Nail care tips to harden soft nails includes soaking the nails in some warm olive oil for at least 20 minutes every alternate day. Incase one’s nails are stained ,then a home remedy would include mixing one tablespoon of lemon juice in approximately one cup of water and then soaking the nails in this liquid for a few minutes before washing them off with some warm water. Once washed, pat the nails dry with a towel and apply some moisturizing lotion. Nail health has to also be taken care of by ensuring that the cuticles of the nail are not removed as this will make the nail prone to any bacterial or fungal infection. Instead one may use good quality cuticle oil and then use an orangewood stick to gently push the cuticles back.

A handy nail care advice is to try and avoid acetone based nail polish removers and instead use a nail polish remover that has acetate. Some people who wear nail polish often notice that over time due to the frequent use of nail polish, their nails develop an unsightly yellow tint. Hence it is advisable to give the nails a break from nail polish from time to time. An effective solution for split, dull or brittle nails is to increase the intake of Vitamin B, organic silica and MSM. One of the common nail care tips is to file one’s nails when the nail polish is already worn as this will minimize breaking and splitting of the nails. Additionally, while having a bath or after washing one’s hands one should dry their nails completely as soap tends to make the nails brittle and dry. It is also beneficial to apply some lotion on the nails and finger tips to keep them moisturized. One’s diet also plays an important role in nail care and hence once should incorporate plenty of fruits and raw vegetables in one’s daily diet so that one can get the required nutrients, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. One should also have food that is rich in zinc as they help strengthen the nails. Similarly, carrot juice also helps maintain nail health as it is rich in phosphorus and calcium. Some people also have the problem of red skin around the cuticles which is usually observed because of poor metabolism of essential fatty acids.
