TONERS
Toners are part of the basic skin care regime. Toners are used after the cleansing routine to complete the cleansing processing by removing traces of cleansers and oil left behind by the facial cleansers. The toning exercise helps in the stimulation of the skin, pores and invigorates the blood circulation Toners therefore tighten the pores and also give the skin a tight and refreshing feeling as the toner evaporates. Toners form an integral part of the basic skin care regime. Why should you use a toner? Toners are responsible for improving the texture of the skin especially when the skin is oily. Frequent toning is also the best way to deal with large pores. It is important to use the toner especially after the acne, whitehead or blackhead is picked to close the pore. How to choose a toner? One could choose between a homemade toner and products available on the shelves. Ingredients found in toners and astringents include water, alcohol, plant extracts such as witch hazel and some moisturizing ingredients. Sometimes alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) are added for more exfoliation. A toner differs from another only with regard to the degree of alcohol content. Natural and homemade toners include: Cabbage or cucumber juice, mixed with rose water makes excellent toners for the skin.
What are the different types of toners? There are two main types of toners available in the market: 1 Facial toners or Fresheners: These have lesser alcohol and are suitable for normal or combination skin. 2 Clarifying lotions or Astringents: These lotions have higher alcohol content and are suitable for oily skin. Toners are best avoidable for dry skin as they tend to make it drier but a mild alcohol-free toner or even just rose water is a good alternative to freshen dry skin. Mild and non-scented toners are best suited to sensitive skin. |
