Combination Skin

A combination skin is called so because it is a combination of a partly dry and partly oily skin. The central part of the face-the forehead, nose, chin and parts of the cheek (also known as the T-zone) look glossy and oily. The cheeks are often dry or very dry.

A combination skin needs to test alternative remedies that work towards preventing excess oiliness in the T-zone and moisturizing the dry parts. Apart from the oily T-zone the dry areas on a combination skin are also at times prone to acne.

Natural skincare must be put to use to nourish and moisturize the dry skin and reduce excessive oil secretion in the T-zone to balance the health of the skin.
Skin care and beauty tips have some recommendations for combination skin that could prove useful when put to use.

Skin Care for Combination Skin:

  • Cleanse and Moisturize. Using a mild cleanser once or twice a day to cleanse the T-zone and a good moisturizer on the dry areas.
  • Retinol or alpha hydroxy acids (Alpha hydroxy acids are derived from fruit, milk and sugar cane and have anti-inflammatory properties) work well for controlling the oil and breakouts, and also help to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles. In the right concentrations, they are non-drying, so they can be used on the dry areas of the face as well.
  • Applying alpha hydroxy acids to the skin help remove dead skin cells (exfoliate), giving a younger appearance.
  • Using oil-absorbing makeup on oily areas to control shine.
  • A sunscreen is a must to combat heat and humidity as both make skin oily.
  • Look for ingredients such as: squalane, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or glycerin. These ingredients have known moisturizing properties.
  • The oily areas of the face would benefit from a weekly oil-absorbing mask. Silica based masks are great for sensitive and very oily skin types.
