Vitiligo Skin Disease

Vitiligo refers to a skin disorder which causes the pigment making cells in the body to get destroyed. As a result of this, white patches appear on the skin and in severe cases, the hair that grows on the patches turn white in color. Thus vitiligo symptoms include patches that are chalk white in color accompanied by whitened hairs where the patches occur. Vitiligo causes remain unknown although researchers believe that it could be genetic. There have been instances where sunburn, emotional trauma and trauma to the skin have been followed by the development of vitiligo. But these have not been scientifically proven as being responsible for vitiligo. One vitiligo remedy is to bask oneself in the early morning sun rays and the rays in the evening. This is to encourage re-pigmentation in the body and to avoid getting sunburnt from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Getting sunburnt when affected with vitiligo can be extremely harmful as the patches are more susceptible and serious damage can be caused to the skin. Apply coconut oil onto the skin every day and gently massage it in. This could help with the vitiligo cure to some extent.

A complete vitiligo cure may be difficult especially if the cause is genetic. Use a sunscreen with an SPF above 30 on all exposed parts of your body, especially the vitiligo affected areas. Eat a healthy balanced diet to keep your body healthy. Vitiligo treatment would involve consuming fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fish, pulses and whole grains. It is extremely important to drink a minimum of three litres of water a day to keep your skin hydrated and to aid in the healing process. Vitiligo prevention would involve giving up smoking, drinking alcohol, caffeinated beverages and artificially flavoured ones. This is to ensure that the body is detoxified. While Vitamin C and B are known to help with this condition, it would be advisable to consult one’s health care provider before embarking on any vitamin intake or medication. Medical vitiligo treatment includes medication for re-pigmentation and in serious cases de-pigmentation. But the pros and cons of the latter must be analysed in detail with a second opinion from a qualified physician. Skin camouflage is also available commercially to cover up the vitiligo patches and to even out one’s skin tone to make them less visible. Avoid stressful situations and take as much rest as possible in case of you are inordinately worried.
